Thirst Aid 2018

May 1, 2018 - September 30, 2018

May 1 – September 30

What is Thirst-Aid?
St. Joseph the Worker’s (SJW) Thirst-Aid is a drive to ensure homeless adults in the Valley have their heat relief needs met to prevent serious health concerns common to those exposed to Arizona summers. Donations to SJW’s Thirst-Aid for heat relief provides individuals with the water they need to prevent dehydration, along with items such as sunscreen, hats, and air-conditioning respite locations—all of which are essential for preventing heat-related illnesses.

Why is Thirst-Aid important to the homeless?
For the homeless, staying hydrated is the last thing on their mind as they work to rebuild their lives. As temperatures begin to rise to over 100 degrees, dehydration could compromise the health and well-being of those experiencing homelessness in our community. Bottled water can save lives and prevent heat-related illnesses. The bottled water collected through Thirst-Aid will be passed out to the homeless individuals and families who lack access to critical heat relief resources.

Who will benefit from Thirst-Aid?
St. Joseph the Worker collaborates with more than a 20 non-profit, governmental, private, and faith-based social service providers located throughout Maricopa. Our continuum of services spans from emergency shelter and food, to assistance finding employment, and maintaining and thriving in permanent housing. Every individual served by SJW’s collaborating agencies will have access to donated water. This means that over a dozen agencies will have their need for water met while you only have to make one donation to one organization! We also share our water with other community agencies to ensure that no one is without water.

Your support is needed to meet the need through the end of Summer!

  • Collecting 100 cases of bottled water will provide for one day of heat relief for over 1,200 homeless individuals.
  • A donation of one case of bottled water is less than $3.00.
  • A pallet of bottled water is as low as $143.00.

SJW is asking the community to participate in the Thirst-Aid campaign by donating bottled water and/or monetary donations to help hydrate and provide necessary heat relief items to those experiencing homelessness.
